The Place I call “Home”
Port Hawkesbury has my whole heart.
This is the Town my grandfather Joe Chisholm chose to raise his family. He moved to Town in 1952, and his family joined him soon after.
My father, Archie Chisholm, together with my mother Sandra, raised Olivia, Joe, Danielle and I. They taught my siblings and I what it is to work hard and treat people with kindness and respect. I absolutely love my family and appreciate them so much!
Port Hawkesbury is where my husband Tommy Beaton and I raise our children. My oldest daughter, Candice, is in Halifax. Our daughter Alexis (18 yrs old) is planning to attend St. Francis Xavier University this Fall, and son Finley (16 yrs old) is attending SAERC (Grade 11); both remain active in the community, in sports, and they both love to volunteer.

I am fully invested in Port Hawkesbury as a long-time resident, as a long-serving community volunteer, and also as a business owner and operator of Fleur de Lis Tea Room and Dining Room (since 2003).
I am also fully invested in our Town as your mayor as I seek a third term! An incredible amount of work has been done by Council, Town Staff and community partners over the past 8 years from 2016-2024 to grow the Town. We have accomplished so much together in such a short time!
Our Town deserves to have experienced and knowledgeable leadership that will accelerate growth. Over the past two terms, I’ve done my best to strike a balance between mayoral leadership, business leadership and family. Although it is a heavy lift and oftentimes requires much more time than one would expect from a part-time position - I continue to offer as your Mayor because I love our Town and I am motivated to see it grow.
The next four years will be critical for development and growth, particularly in the areas of green energy and port development in the Strait of Canso. I believe my education in community and economic development, my 21 years of business experience, and my 12 years of municipal experience will be an asset at this very important time.
I have been working on a Growth Plan for 2024-2028. It includes housing, road and sidewalk rehabilitation, economic development and other important files, and I also want to include what is important to you.
I want citizens to know that the Growth Plan is a “living document.” I will be updating it to ensure it reflects your priorities, ideas, concerns and opportunities. Therefore, I consider my notebook and pen to be important tools!
