Port Development.

The Strait of Canso is a key waterway and port that has developed into an industrial and marine hub, presenting significant opportunities for investors. Located at the North Atlantic gateway, it connects major shipping routes and global markets, promoting trade between North America and Europe. With industrial parks, a skilled workforce, a supportive business climate, and access to natural resources, the region is appealing for companies to establish or grow their operations.

Port Hawkesbury serves as a service hub for local industries located on the Strait of Canso. Port Development has long been a strategic focus, and the Town has collaborated on various initiatives to enhance port development in the Strait of Canso with other partners.

Strait of Canso Marketing Project.

The Town partnered with other Strait Area Municipalities, the Strait Area Chamber of Commerce, the Cape Breton Partnership, Industry partners, and government partners to build marketing capacity to promote the Strait of Canso to the world, and in turn, grow our Port. Key outcomes of this project were the building of a website with key information critical to developers, as well as contact information for developers who want to operate in the Strait.

Strait of Canso Offshore Wind Task Force.

The Strait of Canso Offshore Wind Task Force is a volunteer-led initiative, comprised of a diverse membership. Since it began, the Task Force has represented the socioeconomic interests of the Strait region, by facilitating early engagement and promoting the Strait of Canso’s profile and competitive advantages at a regional, national, and international level. The Task Force has advocated for, and participated in, the development of regulations for the offshore wind industry in Nova Scotia alongside the provincial and federal governments. Together, the membership continues to support responsible and inclusive development of the offshore wind industry in the Strait Area.
